HOW YOU CAN HELP DURING THESE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES
Following guidance from the CDC and health officials, the Food Bank's priority is to ensure the health and safety of our friends and neighbors in need in the 7 counties we serve, as well as our staff, agency partners, and volunteers.
Our warehouse operations will continue to serve our community's needs and will evolve as more information becomes available. We are currently working with elected officials, school systems and other community partners to address the current and future needs in our community.
DONATE FUNDING:We anticipate an extreme rise in the demand for food in the coming weeks. Because we can leverage our buying power, a financial contribution to the Food Bank is one of the most efficient ways to support our operations to serve those who are most at risk. As we pivot our operations to support a quickly evolving situation, innovative solutions and increased capacity will be needed to distribute food to those in need. Donation information can be found at https://foodbankofeastalabama.com/donate/donate-funds
DONATE FOOD:The Food Bank relies on donated product to distribute to our agencies. Many of these agencies are assisting families with children. Our "Wish List" of includes:
Peanut Butter Macaroni & Cheese
Granola/cereal Bars Ramen Noodles
Canned meat Canned meals (like Chef Boy-R-Dee)
Pasta Grits
Oatmeal Cereal
Individually packaged crackers Fruit snacks
Pudding Snacks Cleaning and Hygiene products
Canned fruits & vegetables
VOLUNTEER: Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Food Bank. We are in desperate need of more volunteers than usual to help us sort, pack and distribute food to those in need. If you are healthy and able, please consider signing up for a volunteer shift at https://foodbankofeastalabama.com/donate/volunteer/
SPREAD THE MESSAGE:Help us spread the word about the Food Bank's work. Let your family, friends and co-workers know we are here as a resource and encourage them to volunteer or to make a financial or food donation.
_______
The need for our services during this national emergency will only grow with reduced or disappearing paychecks and children no longer able to receive their school meals because of shutdowns. We are anticipating many hardworking people who have never needed our services before will find themselves at a food distribution for the first time. Our community is resilient and we are powerful when we join together to collectively solve a problem.
